The Baby Sleep Solution

Sleep is very important for your baby …. but it’s also highly important for you and the rest of your family.
Lack of sleep can lead to you suffering from losses in concentration, lower productivity in your work or business, older children can see their schoolwork deteriorate. It can also be hazardous when driving and make you more prone to illness. In extreme cases, lack of sleep has led to jobs being lost and even loving relationships being irreparably damaged …… all because of a crying baby.
This is the potential cost of doing nothing …….. and yet in the next thirty five minutes the problem can be completely resolved and I personally guarantee that you can look forward to a good night’s sleep.

You are not alone with your baby’s sleep problems. Many parents feel desperate to solve their baby’s sleep issues but often feel helpless and isolated without any idea of what to do about it.
It’s important to understand that you are not alone with this difficulty and there is a solution!
I know what it’s like… I have a friend whose youngest son hardly slept at all until he was over two years old. It even reached the stage where he and his wife were taking it in turns to sleep in a local hotel so that one of them could be assured of a good night’s sleep for three days out of every six!
A parent wrote to me to explain that her son was waking every hour through the night. The baby would just wake up and then cry until nursed back to sleep. An hour later he would wake and cry again. She had tried everything she could think of to solve the problem but was feeling exhausted, depressed and desperate.
Yet another said that his daughter would just not go to sleep but would cry and cry for anything up to three hours at a time.
But it doesn’t have to be like this! There is an easy way to solve your baby sleep problems….

Flying with an infant, the mother of a new experience

Travel a long distance flight with a baby would have rank among the most stressful activities of life. However with modern families often scattered all over the world visit the grandmother can often mean the necessary evil of a plane with his demanding joy package.

It will not be easy - but there really is much that can be done to prepare for what may seem like a particularly difficult task

The first thing is first; Do not assume anything. Make sure that you have a passport account for your baby and that the airline know are traveling with you. Some companies that infants travel for free, while others charge 10% on a ticket of adults to children under the age of 2 years of age.

If travel longer distances, consider the premium economy or class of business if possible. Not having to queue and have more leg room or a flat surface would seem expendable luxuries, but extra cost will be worth every penny if it makes your life easier with a baby.

Check with the airline to see if you can give a seat of closing and ask for a cot. The cradle cannot provide is automatically especially if there are other families flying. It is best to do this when booking their tickets rather than the arrival to save any confusion last time or delay.

If your baby is fed with formula, have as much milk as you think that your baby will need and then double it. Today's hypersensitive security means could be asked to drink at random from cartons or bottles which could mean you have to throw some supplies before boarding, or even during traffic safety controls. You can not be sure that there will be delays in flight and a hungry baby

Light travel is a mantra for each passenger with experience but that will double when traveling with a baby. You will have already automatically batches of essentials to take thus forget the heavy books, flying pillows and bags of candy. Take baby paracetamol and a thermometer in case, but ignore who tells him her baby with 'natural herbs' of drugs to make them docile on the plane.

It doesn't feel guilty or apology towards other passengers if your baby is crying or anxiety during a flight. It is an inevitable fact that babies cry and is obviously not left the aircraft so there is no point in wear and tear on it. You could just pleasantly surprised by the kindness of strangers and staff of the airline especially if you travel alone!

Babies are not immune to jet lag and hydration in a flight. Try to ensure that enough for drinking by maintaining a manufactured water bottle with you and offers as many times as they occur. Sucking a mannequin during take off and landing can help to equalize shortly eardrums and help them to 'pop'. Finally, note that normally you will be asked your baby in his return with a seat belt every time that the seat belt sign is switched on during the turbulence. (even if it means waking them up!)

Good luck, be prepared and we must not expect miracles, but you never know, aircraft provide an excellent source of white noise and movement by what could only sleep through everything!

Meditation and Stillness for Busy People

By Colette Baron-Reid on March 21, 2011

When is the last time you took time to really be still, perhaps through meditation or conscious breathing?

With so much going on in our lives, it’s beyond tough to find time to be still and connect to the All That Is. Between hectic work schedules and endless to-do lists, many of us barely have a chance to come up for air. Sure, you want to make time to be still and meditate, but it just gets lost in the shuffle and before you know it, it’s bedtime and you’re too exhausted. We’ve all had this experience of resolving to find the time to meditate, but then it just keeps moving down the priority list. So, take a deep breath and keep reading. Today I’m going to help you get on the road to more stillness without missing out on your to-dos.

Stillness is one of the most powerful keys to tap into your intuition and experience more calm and happiness. By moving beyond your busy ego mind and finding that peaceful place within your consciousness, you connect with the All That Is. As I talk about extensively in Remembering the Future, stillness is where you hear your intuition, which is always waiting to share messages and wisdom. Without taking time each day for stillness, our minds become chatterboxes and we lose ourselves in our busy lives. It’s then far more difficult to distinguish the difference between intuition and wishful thinking.

While there are many ways to experience more stillness, I’ve found that meditation is one of the most effective. With meditation, you experience a clear conscious connection with the Divine and your intuition. Beyond these important connections, meditation has also been shown to help people experience more happiness and better health. If you say you have no time to meditation, remember this: meditation actually gives you more time by helping your mind get calmer and more focused and inspired. When you begin your day with a clear connection to the Divine, your hectic schedule and life’s little hiccups are far more manageable.

I know meditating can be difficult. When I first meditated, I felt uncomfortable and awkward. However, once I found the forms of meditation that worked best for me, I noticed an immediate stillness and calm. I also noticed that meditation helped me better access my intuition and use my gift to help others. The more I practiced, the better I became at cultivating stillness, even in the midst of stressful and busy days. My mind also became far less chaotic. And I’ve always had a busy mind that just loves to think and analyze. So, if I’m able to practice meditation, I promise you can too!

Exercise:

So, how do you go about starting to meditate? First, make a commitment to yourself to meditate for at least 15 minutes each day over the next month. (Or, commit to a week if a month seems too overwhelming. I want to encourage you to just make a commitment to start somewhere.) If you need to, schedule it in your day. I recommend meditating either when you first wake up or sometime between 2-4pm since the mid afternoon is when our minds tend to start to chatter the most. I also like to meditate before bedtime releasing the internal noise from the day.

The Naked Truth about The Naked Mom: Exclusive with Brooke Burke

Are you really naked on the cover of your book?

In my mind, yes... But actually, very few "nude" photo shoots really are shot naked. Aaaah, the power of Photoshop! Thank God for flesh colored g-string panties!

Why did you name your book The Naked Mom?

This book is filled with parts of me that no one has ever seen. I reveal so many intimate details of my life as a woman, a mother and a lover. I feel more naked today in my commitment to honesty than I did back in the day.

Tell us your five favorite things to do naked:

1. Take a hot steam shower
2. Stand in my dressing room choosing which gown to wear for DWTS
3. Slip into my favorite pair of cozy sweats
4. Have a family car wash shower (yes, I mean all four kids!!!)
5. Curl up in David's arms.

What makes you feel exposed?

Blogging, tweeting, and going on my book tour.

Were you more confident being naked at 25 or almost 40?

I am much more confident now. I'm more comfortable in my skin and focused on much deeper beautiful issues.

What part of your body are you most proud of?

My tummy. It was a home for all of my children, and I worked hard to get it back. Thanks TAUTS! It's also my center, my intuition and the place I make most most of my decisions from.

What part of your body do you wish you could change?

None, but if you're passing out perfect parts, I'll take long legs.

What are you going to tell your daughters about your naked past when they ask?

Naked past? That sounds so scandalous! It was an honor to grace Playboy's cover two times. Posing nude was a freeing experience for me at that time, and I do not have one regret. My children will not judge me.

Our top five mummy memories this Mother’s Day

Thank you for all sharing your wonderful and moving mummy and mummy-to-be memories!

Capturing those precious moments with mum are a special way to say I love you this Mother’s Day.

We have loved reading all your personal tales about what your mum/being a mum means to you.

Here are our top 5:

Mrshuggie said her “Mummy Moment” was giving birth to her own child, with her mum holding her hand. Her partner of eight years had left her when she was just five weeks pregnant and that had intensified the life-long bond between mum, daughter and granddaughter.

Beautybaby19 also spoke of her mum “being there” when her baby was born 12 weeks early by C-section because she was suffering severe pre-eclampsia. It seems in times of anguish, mum really is everyone’s best friend.

Ally 1917’s most special mummy memory was being a mum of two daughters and finally giving her fiancĂ© the son they had always longed for.

Groovychick999’s defining mummy moment was giving birth to her daughter who has Down’s Syndrome and was born nine days early in a car park, but she is a “little fighter” and a joy to behold.

But happier memories sprung to mind for fuji15 who said: “My favourite Mummy Memory is dancing with my Mum to Abba. I was about four or five.

“We would dance in front of each other. I would try to repeat her moves and she would praise me and call me a 'dancing queen'.

“I have two boys myself now. Having this lovely memory of my Mum I love dancing with my boys. We all are so happy in these moments and it makes me think I am a good Mum, just like my Mum.

And the winner of the luxury spa break is...

Feeling down with my baby, any ideas?

shaz2010 By shaz2010

06 January 2011 12:15

Need some advice. My baby is 7 months old and lately I am feeling down, alone, useless and crying a lot. Tried speaking to my health visitor and she just told me to cope which is wrong is it not? Any ideas what I can do?

ElissaB ElissaB says

make an appointment with your doctor for some proper advice, maybe ask to speak to someone like a councillor.  Some doctors do try to push everything in the direction of depression and try to solve it with pills, this is not the solution.  If the doctor won't help you get councilling then maybe contact your local surestart or homestart for advice.

Life Lessons from The King's Speech and Beyond

By Annie Burnside on February 28, 2011

With the big win of The King's Speech at the Academy Awards Sunday night comes an invitation to discuss a most basic premise of the Soul to Soul Perspective--wisdom can be found everywhere--everyday life is our best and most profound teacher. The books, movies, articles, songs, confrontations, illnesses, and even laundry create the tapestry of a sacred life. Driving my daughter home from a hair appointment yesterday, I was overcome with my "divine flow energy feeling" characterized by breathlessness, heightened cellular pulsation throughout my body, moist eyes and intense JOY, as once again, I effortlessly moved into the divine state whereby a deep understanding of the luminosity of even the most mundane moments is felt through total presence.

We don't have to wait for a mountaintop epiphany or an ashram retreat to pierce the sacred veil. The greatest divine paradox is that once you "pierce" it, the laughable realization that there is actually no veil to pierce--there is no delineation--becomes apparent. The simple truth that we humans make so very, very difficult is enshrouded in the grandest dichotomy of all time: everything has deep meaning, everything, AND...wait for it...the seeming paradox, because of our eternal, infinite nature, nothing matters as we play the roles of a lifetime (or two) in our human suit. After years of external searching, when these ecstatic moments of illumination hit, I tend to shake my head in sheer amazement at the misperception that often dwells in so many of our hearts and minds. From my continued human experience, I have found that peace comes from resting within this divine paradox, not in resisting it.

So back to The King's Speech as our useful and timely example. I utilized every morsel of this beautiful flick. The many underlying messages are tremendously spiritual to someone like me who feels that spirituality constitutes embracing a larger perspective than what meets the eye. In this case, getting to the emotional cause of the stuttering--what's underneath, always what's underneath--is where the texture of his life creates an expanded awareness. Everyday life, his beloved life, takes him there as he reluctantly opens to the sacred folds of it.

As I viewed The King's Speech, I felt awe at the opportunity afforded all viewers to delve into this idea that all of life is quite purposeful and sacred. Yes, it was difficult at times to see the king suffer with his disability as he mirrored back to me all of the inadequacies that I have felt in my life, but at the same time, his challenges greatly enhanced his life and mine. As we witnessed his vantage point gradually enlarge, we could sense the tremendous gifts hidden within the uncomfortability and pain.

Whether it be stuttering, psoriasis, an unexpected firing, a rift with a friend, all of these seemingly "random" human experiences have deeper meaning to our soul, and only we can cull the gifts from them by literally sifting through the layers of the physical mask to uncover the hidden gems. In doing so, you come to see that each "unwanted" layer of the mask is actually a gem, too, in and of itself. These unforeseen vantage points become more easily recognizable once we first accept that they are always there. In this case, as the king ever so slowly cracked himself wide open, bit by bit his internal awareness grew by leaps and bounds along with compassion, courage, authenticity, acceptance, non-judgment, an understanding of self-healing, a deeper marital relationship, trust, true friendship and so much more.

If we can forego the labeling and judging of everything in life as either good or bad remaining in a more neutral position, then the actual sacredness of it all is given the opportunity to shine through. We are ETERNAL beings and nothing can ever change that...nothing! So we might as well relax into life and utilize each and every twist and turn to experience conscious spirit-embodiment. As one of my favorite teachers of all time, Neale Donald Walsch, expressed to me years ago, "The message of the masters is not that you shall have eternal life, but that you do..." To see the sacred in all of life not just what we deem the best parts of life is the path to enlightenment--an enlightenment accessible to each and every one of us, not saved for a chosen few, and right here within daily life, dirty socks and all. And as I continuously sift through the layers of my own physical mask, on my most clear days, this is what I would LOVE to shout from the Facebook and Twitter mountaintop:)

3 Ways to Reignite Your Passions and Put Yourself First

I have a client I will call Sarah. Sarah has been a mother for as long as she can remember, and in this time Sarah slowly lost touch with her own needs and desires. She spent so much time caring for others, that her own joy factor got pushed aside. When I asked her what her passions were, she looked at me with a complete blank stare. She honestly had no idea what her passions were. I of course told her that deep down she knew exactly what her passions were, they were just buried over the course of time.

Each and every one of us is unique and creative in our own way, it is just a matter of uncovering the truth, listening to your inner guidance. Sarah was excited to uncover her passions, she just didn't have much faith that much was going to be discovered. One symptom that many people experience is forgetfulness. We get so busy in our lives that we simply forget what it is that pulls at our heart strings. We also need to let some things go in our lives to make room for those activities that really excite us. I am a firm believer in simplifying your life first before embarking on major life changes. You will set yourself up to fail if you don't take this crucial step. Get rid of what is draining and taxing you in order to make room for what fills you up. After working with Sarah, she was ecstatic that she found her "calling".

She realized she had a passion for animals. She decided to volunteer at the local animal shelter. This volunteer work brought more meaning and joy to her life than she ever could have imagined. She finally listened to her inner guidance system and put herself first for once. She also realized that putting herself first was not a selfish act, but an act of love for her family. She taught her children by example to follow their hearts and listen to that gentle voice inside. This joy radiated to all those around her and people were amazed by the transformation. This week open yourself up to rediscovering your own passions and desires. Here's how:

The first step in discovering your passions is to take a step away from the noise and chaos in your life. It is important to be in a quiet atmosphere in order to focus and clear your head. Review your life and pinpoint when and where you were the happiest. What experiences brought you joy? Who were you surrounded by? Jot down what comes to mind.

If you are still clueless as to what your passions are, go on a treasure hunt in your own home. Look at your bookshelves. What types of books are you drawn to? Do you have countless numbers of gardening books? Do you have books on travel? Look at your photo albums? What brought you joy in the past? Your home is a blueprint for where your passions lie. Take a good hard look at what your home says.

The next step is to get engaged in a variety of activities. Sign up for classes that have sparked your interest in the past. Try something new, you may be surprised by your level of fun. This is your opportunity to put yourself out there and see what happens. You may be surprised who you will run into or what opportunities may present themselves. This is the time to open yourself up to possibilities

Discovering talents & interests of your baby

By frans Plooij on March 2, 2011

Each new parent believes that his baby is the baby smarter and more talented in the world. It is true, no? However, it is as it should be. But did you know that you can really know - even from the earliest age - where talents and interests of your baby?

You see, every time that your baby makes a leap forward in their mental development, a new type of perception emerges. This allows you to develop many new skills. It is your own baby's choice, while not deliberate, to which skill you want to dominate first. Those things that choose to focus first of all you something about your interests and talents and, therefore, his personality.

Once your baby has made some mental leaps, you will notice that he always has an interest in the same type of skills. For a child, this can be skills "locomotion" (body kinetics) and on the other could be interpersonal interests and related games. Because your baby has a development more yet to come, it is too early to draw conclusions from far-reaching on future directions.

With this in mind, it is important to note that the interests of his son. Although we know that it is imperative to pay attention to everything that refers to your baby, you can maintain some interest that have noticed that it is taken into account and continue playing games that correspond to that particular curiosity.

In the first year, they are know to your baby and know that you are getting. His personality is becoming clearer and this is certainly something that is paying special attention to. A very important aspect of his personality in development is interests of her baby, as they also determine how developed, how deals with mental leaps, how he masters of skills and what demands of life. Yes, already at this early age.

In short: the interests of your baby are without doubt among the most important things to do, because their interests determine a large part of their development. Always takes into account that the baby has its own interests and are not necessarily the same as yours. It is important that it allows you to indicate your interests and what has your attention, and not urge their own interests on it. While it may seem obvious, sometimes it is one of the most difficult things when raising his son.

Newborn Babies Get Bored Too!

By Frans Plooij on January 4, 2011

With every wonder week, or leap, that babies make, they are able to perceive things they couldn't perceive before. And, once they have made one of these leaps, they want nothing more than to explore their new capabilities.  That is why, with every new stage in mental development, new games, toys and situations are so attractive.  And, it is why I describe the best games and things to do with your baby with every leap in my book, The Wonder Weeks.

The first leap is 5 weeks after the due date. When you know what's going on up there in that new brain and you know what is going to please your baby and which games to play, you will definitely give her what she is asking for.

But, that doesn't mean that a just-born-baby can't get bored - even before she makes her first leap. Au contraire! Your tiny infant is not yet able to amuse herself.  As you probably noticed, she's pretty lively. And, tempermental babies, in particular, make no secret about wanting some action as soon as they are awake.

Here are some ways to get your just-born-baby entertained:

Explore the House with Her.

Give her the opportunity to see, hear and touch whatever she finds interesting (safely, of course).  Explain the items you come across while exploring. No matter what it is, she will enjoy listening to your voice. Pretty soon, she will start recognizing objects herself.

Have a Quiet "Chat."

Your baby enjoys the sound of your voice,  But, if you also have a radio playing in the background, she will have difficulty in concentrating on your voice only.  Although young babies are able to make a distinction between different voices when they hear them all the time, they cannot distinguish one from another when they hear them simultaneously.

New Objects to Explore

Place interesting objects in convenient places for your baby to look at when she is awake.  At this stage, she won't be able to search for them herself. So, for her, it's 'out of sight, out of mind.'

Experiment with Music

Try to discover her favorite music and play it with her. She may find it soothing.

In all activities, let your baby's responses guide you!

Reorganize Your Life & Focus on What You Love

By Lifecoach Leslie on January 7, 2011

I recently read about this study conducted by Nobel Prize recipient Daniel Kahneman. He believed we would all feel a lot better if we spent our time more wisely. He conducted a diary study with 909 women in Austin, Texas. He asked them to record all the activities they did during the day and then rate how happy they were while doing them. He then had them narrow the list to their least favorite activities. Unfortunately those activities accounted for nearly half of the participants' waking hours.

Not surprisingly, his advice was fairly simple. He said "reorganize your life to be in situations that you'd rather continue than stop." He mentioned delegating certain chores to other family members, finding alternative ways to get to work if commuting's got you down, or simply cutting out activities all together that had become more of an obligation than a pleasure. I offer this same exact advice to my clients all the time. Time is a constant that simply won't change or deviate, but how you spend your time is completely up to you.

Once you begin delegating or eliminating things you don't like, you'll have more time for things you love. Your life sometimes feels like it is on autopilot, so unless you consciously make a decision to take control of the steering device every now and then, it will continue to guide itself. This week, I would like for each of you to open your eyes and take a closer look at your life and the direction it is taking.

1. Add in fun

If you are committed to reorganizing your life, adding a splash of fun is a good first step. People who report being happiest during the day also report higher levels of overrall satisfaction with their lives. Work, kids, responsibilities, chores and tasks will consume you if you allow it to. Rediscover what you enjoy and start plugging it into your calendar on a daily basis.

2. Delegate or eliminate

Look at all the activities that take up the majority of your time. You can also create a time diary to see more clearly how you spend your time. Once you have a clear picture, circle the activities that simply don't bring you much joy anymore. If they still need to get done, see if you can delegate them to someone else or possibly hire help. If you can eliminate the activity all together you will free up time for what really brings you happiness.

3. Define your core values

When you live your life by what's important to you, you will feel a higher level of satisfaction and joy. Take some time this week to list your 5 core values. Some examples may be compassion, dependability, fitness, humor, health, love, wisdom or simplicity. Then decide whether or not you are incorporating these values on a daily basis. If not, it may be time to make some changes. Make sure your life revolves around what is most sacred to you.

Use Fall Energy to Reinvigorate Yourself

Use Fall Energy to Reinvigorate Yourself<br /> It’s raining, there is a crispness and coolness in the air; the leavesare starting to change and fall as the days grow shorter and shorter. Its the autumn, my very favorite time of the year.Let's use the fall energy as a time for letting goand releasing old energies that we would like to leave here in 2010while we prepare and gather what we would like and need to bring into2011.

1. Reflection of the Past Year

Notice what you did this year, what was the year like for you? Were there were any memorable or life-changing events that took place? Werethere any doors or opportunities that opened for you or lessons thatyou learned? In a journal, begin to write about anything that stood out whilereflecting back over this past year. Write about the openings, gifts, challenges, hardships, losses, and new beginnings. Was there an overall tone of the year?

2. What Needs to Stay and What Needs to Go

What people, behaviors, actions, thoughts and ways of being are workingfor you? Who do you feel good around, supported and inspired by? Who brings you down and is negative? Who needs to go? We can’t make room for the new if we arefilling up space in our lives with energy that doesn’t work for us anymore. Same with behaviors, thoughts and actions -- what’s healthy andwhat’s toxic? What is holding you back and keeping you stuck? What issupporting, healthy and feeding you to thrive in life? What needs togo? What needs to stay? Make a conscious intention to let anything goin your life that has held you back from moving forward and being allthat you can be.

3. Cleaning House and Organizing

I have heard more than once that the home is a reflection of the self andyour energy. A cluttered house is an extension of a cluttered mind. Ifthere is stuff everywhere there is no breathing room to be able tothink and expand. Getting rid of things can also be metaphoric forgetting rid of the old energy in your life. Nothing new can come in ifthere isn’t any space for it to land, So throw away those old papers, donate your old clothes that you haven’t worn in 10 years, organize your home and feel thedifference in energy and space you have created.

4. Nurture Yourself

We just transitioned into fall from summer. The energy of summer isall about being outward and social. The fall is a time of reflectionand preparation. It’s a great time to re-balance your energy fromsummer and rest up before the holiday season. Things like yoga, massage, cooking, snuggling on the couch with a great book and a nicehot cup of tea or hot chocolate or watching a movie are some greatways to recharge. Make a list of 10 things that nurture, recharge andmake you feel good . Pick a few things each week and do them.

Traveling can be difficult at even the best of times, but if you're carrying formula or breast milk with you, things get a little more tricky. According to the Transportation Security Administration, or TSA, you are allowed to bring more than 3 ounces of breast milk or formula on the plane, with or without your baby, as long as you declare it at the security checkpoint. Prepare ahead of time to ensure that you keep baby's milk safe and that you don't encounter trouble at security.

By AirplaneStep 1

Print out the TSA regulations regarding formula and breast milk to bring with you. The limit for most liquids is 3 ounces. Though you can bring more formula or breast milk than this, some agents may not be fully aware of the TSA policy. It's helpful to have this on hand to show personnel who may be confused. The document is available at the TSA.gov website.

Step 2

Package your breast milk or formula in plastic containers with tight-fitting lids. If you use only plastic bags, you'll run the risk of an agent inadvertently breaking the bag, causing the milk to leak. Plastic containers are safest. Pack more than you think you need.

Step 3

Keep your containers of milk in a separate bag. An insulated bag works well if you're carrying breast milk or prepared formula. You're also allowed to keep an ice pack to keep it cool.

Step 4

Tell the security agent that you're carrying breast milk or formula and require a special search. You may not want your baby's milk to go through the x-ray machine. You'll have to go to a separate area for your search. Expect a same-sex agent to perform any bodily searches. The agent may wipe your plastic containers with a cotton swab or pad to test for explosives.

Step 5

Purchase bottled water once you are inside the boarding area if you need to to mix it with powdered formula.

Step 6

Keep a bottle or two easily accessible during take off. You can store the rest in the overhead bin.

By Car, Bus or TrainStep 1

Store your baby milk in plastic containers. Baby bottles work well, but regular plastic containers can do the trick as well.

Step 2

Keep the plastic containers in a cool place, such as an insulated bag or cooler.

Step 3

Feed your baby her milk as needed.
